Parenting has its high points and its low points. One of the best things about parenting is watching your children grow and change each day. One of the most difficult things about parenting is dealing with sick kids. What do you do to help make your kids more comfortable when they are sick?
Depending upon the age of your child, your plan of action may be different. For example, if your young child has teething symptoms, you would most likely give her a teething ring to chew on. Teething symptoms can include irritability, sleeping problems, ear pain, and a runny nose. Teething can last a long time and can cause quite a bit of problems for parents of young children.
When children get older, you will not have to deal with teething problems, but you most certainly will be dealing with other health problems. Your teen will most likely get colds, stomach aches, and other types of viruses. One of the best ways to deal with illnesses is to make sure that your child gets plenty of rest and drinks fluids. By getting rest during an illness, your child’s body will quickly heal and he’ll be back to himself in no time.
Depending upon the illness, you may need to take your child to the doctor for medicine. While teething pain very rarely requires a doctor’s visit, your child may develop an ear infection or other medical problem during teething. If your chid starts to run a fever, it is a wise idea to make an appointment at the doctor to see what is going on.
If your child’s doctor would prescribe medication for your child, it is important to follow the directions as specified. If you stop the medicine before it has been finished, your child may get sick again.
